Who is Michaela Stirling in Bridgerton?

In the books, Eloise's love story takes place after Daphne, Anthony, Benedict and Colin. But Benedict’s only really been interested in the sexual part of relationships. Being avant-garde and in touch with one’s artistic side is a stereotype that filmmakers and TV writers alike have used to indicate that a male character is queer for decades.

While all of the brothers aren’t super keen on finding a match, he’s the one who’s arguably put the least effort in, and shown the least interest in, actually courting a woman.

Maybe it’s a heavily featured side character (sapphic arc for Lady Danbury, perhaps?), or maybe it is someone introduced solely in an upcoming season to have a background romance.

This time, though, Lady Tilley Arnold (Hannah New) is a widow, and described by Deadline as a ”living life on her own terms with financial independence and sexual freedom.” In the first half of season 3, we certainly see her hold her own with the men of the Ton — but could that sexual freedom mean opening Benedict’s mind beyond heterosexuality?

Season three confirmed that Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) is pansexual, and we saw his queer awakening following his exploration of a polyamorous relationship.

After all, this is an alternate history, where love conquers all and the showrunners aren’t exactly beholden to historical accuracy. note: Below are spoilers for who’s having a queer awakening in Bridgerton season 3B. Phillip (Chris Fulton) marries Penelope Featherington's cousin Marina. But it looks like they’ll have to stick to Bridgerton fan fiction to get their fix.

(Although, Michael Stirling has been gender-swapped to Michaela for Francesca's story.) So, it seems likely that Eloise will end up marrying Phillip in the series too. There hasn’t been a hint of Sophie Beckett, Benedict’s book wife, in the Netflix series. But the show has been playing fast and loose with the way things go in the books, so we’ll see what this means for Benedict and his newfound bisexuality.

This instalment ended in a way that stirred up a lot of excitement about what we have to look forward to in future seasons, especially with potential upcoming LGBTQIA storylines.

When asked about possible queer-coding in Eloise and Cressida’s relationship, Madsen told Decider that she’d be stoked if that was the case.

“I absolutely love that,” she said.

And when Francesca looks at her, she experiences the most intense bisexual panic I have ever seen depicted on screen.

With Benedict and Francesca confirmed as queer, Brownell is absolutely delivering on the promise she teased. For years fans have shipped her with her BFF Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and after seeing part one of season three, many of us shipped Eloise with Cressida Cowper (Jessica Madsen).

This reveal showed that Benedict was not the only queer Bridgerton sibling and that something sapphic is coming for Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd) in future seasons.

This season, he strikes up yet another sexual relationship with a new female character.
