What is semi-sexual?
Semi-sexuality (Demisexuality) refers to a sexual orientation in which individuals feel sexually attracted only after establishing a deep emotional connection with others. Wondering what all of those letters mean?
We specialize in connecting clients with licensed therapists who are not only trained professionals but also members of the LGBTQ+ community themselves.
- Someone who falls between fully asexual and fully allosexual.
- Someone who does not feel sexual attraction but has a libido.
- Someone who does feel sexual attraction but does not have a libido
- Someone who experiences sexual attraction and possibly qualifies as allosexual by definition, but finds asexuality and/or greysexuality a useful and relevant concept to describe one's orientation, experiences, or feelings in some way.
History
The first definition of semisexual was coined on October 27, 2003 by AVEN user and founder David Jay.
He acknowledged that there was no term at the time for those who fell between fully asexual and fully allosexual and coined semisexual to account for the gap. 2. Commonly seen as “Female Assigned at Birth” (FAAB or AFAB) and “Male Assigned At Birth” (MAAB or AMAB).
Bisexual – A person who is attracted to members of more than one gender; does not have to be a preference for one gender over another.
Cisgender – Someone who identifies with the gender identity/expression expectations assigned to them based on their physical sex at birth.
Gay – A common term for men who are attracted to other men; also an umbrella term used to refer to the LGBTQ community as a whole.
Gender Binary – The division of gender into two distinct and opposite categories (man and woman).
Queer – An umbrella term which embraces a matrix of sexual preferences, orientations, and habits of the not-exclusively- heterosexual-and-monogamous majority; also a sexual orientation or gender identity label denoting a non-heterosexual and/or non-cisgender orientation. Non-binary people may identify as being both a man and a woman, somewhere in between, or as falling completely outside these categories.
For semi-bisexuals, this white stripe acknowledges the part of their identity that may experience attraction to genders unlike their own, though perhaps less consistently or intensely.
Whether flown at a Pride parade, displayed in a profile picture, or hung on a wall, the semibisexual flag is a source of pride and a symbol of resilience.

As we conclude our exploration of semi-bisexuality and its place within the spectrum of human sexuality, it’s crucial to acknowledge the support systems that empower individuals to embrace their true selves.

Black triangle
Meaning: The black triangle you see to the left of the half-sex flag represents and honors the larger asexual community. Simple explanations about how semi-bisexuality differs from other sexual orientations can clarify misunderstandings.
Remember that you can identify as semi-sexual and have a completely different relationship with your gender and which gender you are attracted. An ally works to end oppression by supporting and advocating for people who are stigmatized, discriminated against or treated unfairly. They may feel a strong sexual attraction in some relationships, but not in others.
Breaking the flag of half-sex
One of the most beautiful things about Pride flags is their symbolism, and half-mast flags are no exception.
Once this connection is established, they may develop a strong sexual attraction to each other.
Individual differences: Each half-sex person's experience is unique. While many also identify as transgender, not all non-binary people do
Pansexual – Attraction toward people of all genders, including those who identify as transgender, transsexual, androgynous, genderqueer, agender, and all other gender identifications, as well as those who do not feel they have a gender; pansexuality is often confused or intermeshed in definition with bisexuality.
Polyamory – The state of having multiple sexually or romantically committed relationships at the same time, with the consent of all partners involved.
Before that, many semi-sexual people may not realize that their sexual orientation is different, or can't find the right words to describe their feelings. It consists of four colors and shapes: White Stripes, purple stripes, gray stripes and a black triangle on the left side of the flag.
