Weekday and Sunday drag shows are popular, but come Friday and Saturday, the dance floor is what brings in patrons.

A short 10-minute walk from Taksim Square, SuperFabric is a busy LGBTQ+ nightclub known for its mixed crowd and fun themed parties. Indulge in the traditional Turkish baths, or unwind in the sauna, Jacuzzi, and swimming pool.

Maybe it’ll be worth it when you see how much dead skin is being removed! Facilities include a pool, jacuzzi, multiple sauna rooms, gym equipment, and lounge areas for relaxation. This was simply not my idea of relaxation (but it works for millions of other people so try it out yourself). Take your pick of gay saunas Istanbul and let us know which one you love the most!

Turkish Bath Etiquette 101: How To Hammam (in 6 Steps)

As a ritual steeped in tradition and culture, there are some things worth knowing before you head to your first hammam.

To begin with, men and women bathe separately, unless you go to a modern bathhouse that accommodates couples.

The lounge area provides a perfect spot to relax and socialize.

    Know Before You Go

While Aquarius Sauna is renowned for its welcoming atmosphere and diverse crowd of mostly local Turkish men aged 20 to 40, it's important to be aware of the presence of rent boys. Visiting these spaces not only rejuvenates the body but also offers a cultural insight into the city’s heritage and modern social life.

By exploring different atmospheres — from quiet, marble-lined chambers to dynamic, modern saunas — travelers can choose experiences that align with their preferences.

Located on the 1st floor, this lively gay bar is your ticket to a night of live Turkish music, electrifying DJ sets, and fun drag performances.

Once a lesbian haven, Rocinante Cafe & Bar has re-emerged as a trendy gay bar for the LGBTQ+ community. Early morning visits are recommended to enjoy a quiet, less crowded atmosphere.

  • 💡 Extra info: The Golden Horn area provides scenic waterfront walks and access to historic landmarks, making this hamam a great addition to a sightseeing itinerary.

It is perfect for those interested in meeting people and enjoying a dynamic atmosphere, rather than seeking historical authenticity.

  • 💡 Extra info: The surrounding Cihangir district is known for its artistic and bohemian atmosphere, featuring art studios, cozy cafés, and trendy bars. (Unless you like that sort of thing, of course).

I didn’t choose the spa life; the spa life chose me.

I’ve chilled out for days in the Onsens of Japan.

Kicked back in the natural mineral waters of the Dead Sea of Israel, doggy-paddled in the To Sua Ocean Trench of Samoa and enjoyed an abundance of spa treatments in Thailand as a Chiang Mai expat.

So it only made sense for me to try out the world-famous Turkish bath Istanbul experience.

After parting with my money and requesting the whole works, I was told in broken English to go and change into a towel (no shorts underneath – birthday suit only).

A couple of minutes later, the guy directed me to what resembles a massive steam room (a big, hot, steamy room, but not as dry or as intense as a sauna).

Firuzaga Hamamı is a smaller historical gay sauna in the Beyoglu area of Istanbul and a perfect place to see a local Hamamı and what they offer. Although it is not exclusively gay, it is known to be welcoming to LGBTQ+ visitors.

  • 🕒 Tips: Use discretion as it is a mixed venue. Open 24 hours a day, it provides a safe and inviting space for like-minded men to meet, mingle, and enjoy some adult fun in Istanbul.

    Your Gateway to Gay Istanbul

For those seeking an authentic Turkish sauna experience combined with a friendly and discreet environment, Aquarius Sauna will be waiting for you.

    Other Popular Istanbul Gay Saunas

Yeşildirek Hamamı in Istanbul is one of the highest-ranking gay saunas in Istanbul.

Bringing flip-flops, a towel, and a small toiletry kit is recommended, though rentals and supplies are usually available.

  • 💡 Extra info: Located near quaint antique shops and charming cafés in Cukurcuma, you can pair your hamam visit with a cultural stroll through one of Istanbul’s most picturesque neighborhoods, taking in the mix of historic and modern vibes.
  • 🌿 Additional experience: Consider indulging in a traditional foam massage or oil massage for the full Ottoman bath experience, which many travelers find rejuvenating both physically and mentally.

  • Cihangir Sauna (Beyoğlu)

    • 📍 Location: Cihangir district, near Taksim
    • Why visit: Cihangir Sauna caters specifically to the gay community, offering a lively, social environment.

The space is intimate, making it easier to socialize with other visitors or enjoy peaceful solitude.

    • 🕒 Tips: Peak hours are in the evenings and weekends.

      gay turkish bath

Ideal for travelers who want to combine a spa experience with social engagement.

    • 💡 Extra info: Its central location allows easy access to clubs, bars, and restaurants, making it perfect for a full day of relaxation and nightlife. I don’t love a firm massage, but my tolerance has upped somewhat after living in and travelling around Thailand for so long.

      However, this was borderline sadism.

After your sauna visit, you can explore the district or head to the nearby nightlife of Taksim for an evening out.

    • 🌟 Unique feature: Cihangir Sauna often hosts themed nights or events that add a playful, interactive dimension to the traditional sauna experience.

    Aquarius Sauna (Near Taksim)

    • Why visit: Aquarius Sauna is a modern venue combining wellness with social interaction.

Embrace the fusion of history and contemporary culture, respect local customs, and enjoy an immersive, unforgettable journey through Istanbul’s unique gay-friendly bathing scene.
